Yellow Cab
Memphis, Tennessee
Maker: Universal Match Corp. St. Louis MO (Royal Flash Billboard Match) (Ebay: Carl's Match Covers)
This wide-format matchbook likely contained 30 matches rather than the usual 20. The plea to conserve resources dates it to World War II.
Yellow Cab established stands or "stations" all over Memphis with direct telephone lines to the dispatch office. This facilitated city-wide coverage and quicker service to customers in outlying neighbourhoods.
The introduction of 2-way radios after the war diminished the need for such stations. See the very similar matchbook from Cincinnati, Ohio.
